CONSERVATORY PROGRAM

The OC Music & Dance Conservatory
is a college-preparatory, pre-professional training program designed for dedicated high school musicians in grades 9 – 12 performing at an intermediate to advanced level.
The Conservatory experience includes:
Specialized Technique Classes aligned with each track (e.g., ballet, contemporary, and conditioning for Classical; jazz, hip hop, and commercial styles for Commercial)
Rehearsal and repertoire-based training focused on performance development and stage readiness
Conditioning and cross-training to build strength, flexibility, and injury prevention awareness
Performance opportunities throughout the year, including showcases, informal showings, and community events
Opportunities for individualized coaching and feedback to support each dancer’s technical and artistic growth
This immersive program is built for students who are serious about developing their artistry, refining their technical skills, and preparing for collegiate study or careers in dance and the performing arts.
Students choose a primary focus in Classical Dance or Commercial Dance, and engage in a comprehensive curriculum that balances individual growth with collaborative experience. Each track is designed to reflect real-world industry expectations while maintaining a strong foundation in musicianship and artistic integrity.
Students are admitted to the program by audition and are held to high artistic and professional standards, with an emphasis on consistency, collaboration, and creative exploration. Faculty provide ongoing feedback, mentorship, and individualized guidance to help each student reach their full potential.

Classical Dance
Conservatory
The Classical Dance Conservatory at OC Music & Dance offers students in grades 9–12 comprehensive training rooted in classical ballet. Designed for intermediate to advanced dancers, the program prepares students for both collegiate and professional pathways in dance.
Students receive in-depth instruction in ballet technique, including pointe, alongside modern and contemporary practices such as improvisation, release technique, and choreography. Training emphasizes strength, flexibility, alignment, musicality, and artistic expression, while also introducing elements of classical repertoire and performance quality.
With over 15 hours per week dedicated to technique classes and rehearsals, students develop discipline, consistency, and a strong technical foundation. Additional training in conditioning and related disciplines supports overall physical development and injury prevention.
Students regularly participate in performances, workshops, and master classes, gaining valuable stage experience and exposure to professional environments. Led by professional faculty, the program fosters technical excellence, artistry, and a deep appreciation for classical dance, equipping students with the skills and discipline needed for success in dance and beyond.
Commercial Dance
Conservatory
The Commercial Dance Conservatory at OC Music & Dance is a non-competitive training program for students in grades 9–12 at the intermediate to advanced level. It provides comprehensive training across disciplines reflective of the commercial dance industry, while also preparing students for college dance programs and professional performance opportunities.
Students train in jazz, contemporary/modern, and ballet, alongside musical theater, hip hop, improvisation, lyrical, and commercial choreography, with an optional tap component. This diverse curriculum builds versatility while strengthening each dancer’s technical foundation.
Classes emphasize musicality, style, performance quality, and choreography retention, helping students gain confidence both on stage and in audition settings. Dancers learn to adapt to various movement styles and collaborate effectively in ensemble environments.
The program also introduces industry-focused skills such as audition techniques, stage presence, and professional collaboration. Through workshops, performances, and guest artist experiences, students gain exposure to real-world performance settings and professional choreography.
Overall, the conservatory fosters technical discipline, creativity, and artistic growth in a supportive environment that encourages confidence, versatility, and a lasting appreciation for dance.
