CLARINET

I am Chenrui Lin, a clarinetist dedicated to the relentless pursuit of excellence, continually refining my craft at some of the world’s leading music institutions. My bond with music began in childhood, and through rigorous professional training and a keen artistic sensibility, I progressed from the Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and later earned my Master’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Along this journey across China and the United States, I studied under world-renowned clarinet masters including Professor Lei Fan, Richard Stoltzman, Jeff Anderle, and Jerry Simas, gaining a comprehensive mastery of classical clarinet performance and orchestral repertoire, while developing a distinctive artistic voice.

On stage, I uphold the highest artistic standards. Whether performing with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Pearl River Film Symphony Orchestra, or in premier concert halls in San Francisco and Boston, I have performed with ease in multiple roles—Principal Clarinet, Second Clarinet, C Clarinet, E-flat Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet. My repertoire spans from Copland’s Symphony No. 3, Stravinsky’s The Firebird, and Berlioz’s Romeo and Juliet to Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. My performances have graced significant stages in both China and the United States, and in international projects such as the Youth Music Culture Guangdong (YMCG), I have collaborated closely with world-class conductors and musicians including Daniel Harding and Yu Long, honing exceptional ensemble skills and artistic communication.

Beyond performance, I am deeply committed to music education and talent development. Since 2021, I have served as the orchestral clarinet coach for the Guangzhou Youth Symphony Orchestra, guiding students through orchestral excerpts with patience and precision. I have also worked for many years as an assistant clarinet instructor at the Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music, mentoring beginners and young enthusiasts. Teaching and performing go hand in hand, allowing me to constantly refine my own techniques while deepening my appreciation for the legacy of musical artistry.

In competitions, I have achieved numerous honors: Third Prize at the Italy International Young Musicians Competition, First Prize at the 2018 International Clarinet Performance Competition, Silver Medal at China’s “Little Golden Bell” Award, and First Prize at the Hamburg International Arts Festival Competition. These accolades stand as recognition of my skill, and as proof of my unwavering dedication to the pursuit of artistic excellence.

As a professional musician, I believe in music’s power to transcend language and cultural boundaries. With technical mastery, heartfelt expression, and deep reverence for the art, I strive to make every performance a dialogue with the audience’s soul. Looking ahead, I will continue to devote myself to the international stage, challenge my own limits, and let the voice of my clarinet connect every corner of the world.
