Musical Journey

At The School of Music, we think of music as a language that can foster connection between people of different ages and backgrounds.

With classical training from qualified instructors our students become fluent communicators in this language by developing both their performance skills and their ability to read and write music notation accurately. Once our students have harnessed the language of music they are able to unlock their creativity across any genre, style or instrument they choose.

The Keys to Success

The School of Music program features a curriculum designed to help you engage with the world of music and develop your artistic self-expression.

This curriculum consists of four different elements:

Private Lessons

Develop technique and fluency in the instrument of your choice with one-on-one mentorship in the study of standard repertoire. Private lessons meet weekly for 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on the student’s level and experience.

We have faculty mentors ready to guide you through lessons on a variety of instruments including piano, violin, viola, cello, flute, brass instruments, guitar, bass, percussion, and voice.

Musicianship

In Musicianship Class students learn how to become better musicians, no matter what instrument they enjoy. Immerse yourself in the language of music with lessons on music theory, rhythmic and melodic dictation, ear training, and sight singing to develop your performance skills. Musicianship classes meet weekly and are bundled with private lesson tuition.

This offering spans five levels:

  • Music Fundamentals 1

  • Music Fundamentals 2

  • Intro to Theory and Aural Skills

  • Intermediate Theory and Aural Skills,

  • Advanced Theory and Aural Skills.

By the end of the series, you’ll have the confidence and skills to take on music in any style. Students are placed in the appropriate level based on their placement test results.

Ensembles

Collaborate and create with other young musicians and learn to listen and communicate your music clearly while having fun with your peers. We offer ensembles of all sizes from trios to orchestra.

On occasion, The School of Music holds special workshops dedicated to individual instruments. There you will receive instruction in technique and repertoire before coming together as an ensemble for an afternoon concert.

Performance

Express your creativity and learn to engage audiences by sharing your music with friends and family. Recital performance opportunities are regularly offered in Winter and Summer with the potential for other performance opportunities throughout the year.
