What Sets Us Apart

About

OC Music & Dance is an Irvine-based, non-profit community arts school with a diverse student body of over 400 students, ranging in age from 18 months to adult. Founded in 2017, OCMD ensures every child, regardless of their financial circumstances, has the opportunity to develop their innate talents, learn from the most accomplished professionals, and be encouraged by peers, family, and community. Nearly 54% of our students are on financial assistance, ranging from 25% to 75%. We provide high-quality education, training, and performance opportunities in music, including instrument and voice.

Facility and Faculty

Our 21,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, built with our students’ needs in mind, encompasses 16 music practice rooms, 2 dance studios, a 100-seat black box theater with full live streaming capacity, a 40 seat café operated by a social venture providing workforce development for emancipated foster youth, and a professional-grade recording studio. Our more than 40 teachers bring an extraordinarily high level of talent, commitment, and a wide range of experience to our school. Many come from the Pacific Symphony, UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Colburn School, Juilliard, Eastman, and other music and dance conservatories. The school’s founder is Charlie Zhang (famous for creating the Pick-Up Stix restaurant chain), and the CEO is Doug Freeman (former chair of the Pacific Symphony and founder of National Philanthropy Day).

We are a Steinway select school

OCMD is proudly one of only a small handful of music schools designated in Orange County. We have 13 Steinway or Steinway-designed pianos, including four grand pianos, featuring both a Model D and Model B Grand Pianos.

Our vision

 Health & Safety

With the safety of our families a number one priority, OC Music & Dance is serious about upholding Child Protection laws and policies within the school as well as at public performances and online (website and social media).

As part of your registration, you will have read and signed a media waiver allowing us to proudly use images and video footage of your student for advertising and promotional purposes. Should you have any concerns whatsoever with signing this declaration, please email Lindsay Peckham, Director of Student Accounts and Relations, at Lindsay@ocmusicdance.org and she will happily assist you.

We have a number of CCTV cameras within the school which can be observed from the comfort of Monkey Business Cafe. All of our teachers and staff members have undergone official background checks allowing them to work with children.

OC Music & Dance takes no responsibility for any stolen or misplaced property on school premises and we encourage our families to avoid bringing valuable items into the school where possible.
