Weekly Technique Training & Professional Development With Expert Faculty

The Fairmont and OCMD Pre-College Dance Program is designed to equip talented, passionate, intermediate to advanced-level dancers in grades 6 through 12 with the technical skills and artistic excellence necessary to pursue dance at the college level. Students train in a diverse range of styles under the mentorship of experienced, caring faculty who are experts in their dance field. Weekly courses include dance wellness, conditioning, contemporary, modern, ballet, jazz, hip hop, choreography, improvisation, special studies, professional development, and repertory rehearsal.  Dancers will be challenged to expand their creative and critical-thinking skills while creating positive working relationships in a collaborative environment.

Video Audition Requirements

All applicants must submit an audition video. Videos should include:


Technique (2 minutes)

Two minutes of technique exercises demonstrating range of technical ability in one or more styles.*  See below for examples of style-specific skills you may choose to include:



At barre: plies, tendus/degages from 5th position, rond de jambes, frappé, développé, grand battement, etc.

Center work: adagio, pirouettes, petit allegro, grand allegro, turn progressions.


Contemporary / Modern

Warm-up exercises: roll downs, flat backs, laterals, plies, undercurves, tendus/degages, work in parallel and rotation, etc.

Technique moving through space: progressions across the floor, floorwork, small and large jumps.



Standing warm-up: isolations, plies, tendus.

Center work: jazz walks, battements, chaine turns, pique turns, pirouettes, sequential turns (i.e., a la secondes, fouettes), leaps and jumps.


Choreography (2 minutes)

Two minutes of solo choreography and/or improvisation in one or more styles.*  Choreography component may feature informal recordings in a studio or performance footage from within the last year.


*Please Note: Applicants may choose to show up to two styles for each video segment (i.e., jazz and ballet, contemporary and jazz, etc.).  However, each segment should not exceed two minutes. Total video submission should be four minutes maximum: two minutes technique, plus two minutes choreography.
