Tap dance arose as a fusion of many different ethnic dances, including African tribal dances, and Scottish, Irish, and English clog dances, hornpipes, and jigs. It features percussive beats as the tap shoes strike the floor, and plays with syncopation, innovative rhythms, and improvisation. It has a rich history in movie musicals, Broadway, and television.
