Modern dance technique emphasizes freedom of movement and personal expression, and incorporates elements like contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation. We currently offer classes in Horton Technique and improvisation, both of which are ideal for the college-bound dancer.

Fundamentals of Modern Dance – Ages 7-10

Thursdays. 9/17-12/10.  3:30PM – 4:30PM

Designed for the emerging artist, this dynamic and energetic class introduces codified exercises and movement concepts of both classical Horton and contemporary modern dance techniques. Explore new and unique ways to approach movement, develop an attention for detail, and experience freedom in movement.

Beg/Int Modern Dance – Ages 11-17

Mondays. 9/14 – 12/7.  4:45PM – 5:45PM

Geared toward beginning and intermediate dancers, this course explores classical Horton and contemporary modern dance techniques. Through a series of dynamic and energetic codified exercises, dancers will fortify and stretch their bodies, move in new and unconventional ways, develop confidence in artistic decision-making, and refine technique.

Improvisation for Dancers – Ages 11-17

Thursdays. 9/17-12/10.  6:00PM – 7:00PM

This playful improvisation class challenges students of all levels and abilities to explore new and unique movement patterns in a variety of styles of dance. Dancers will participate in a series of task-based movement generation activities and guided improvisation scores as they deepen self-awareness and develop confidence in artistic decision-making.

Create: Modern & Improv – Ages 17+

Mondays. 9/14 – 12/7.  7:15PM – 8:15PM.

Move creatively in this class derived from modern dance. Start with warm-up exercises that promote coordination, balance and body awareness, then transition to creative movement practices. Find a greater connection to self, others and community in a safe and supportive environment.
